On the airplane you will be given a tourist card to fill out. Immigration keeps half, you keep the other half. You turn this in at the check-in counter at the airport when you leave the country.
The Lic. Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) is busy and can be confusing. After you go through immigration you collect your luggage and go through customs. From there you are funneled through a large hall where timeshare sales people shout at you as you walk by, offering you great deals on everything from Mexican blankets to car rental. Ignore.
You will be approached by someone asking if you need a taxi. Say Yes. The rates are the same with both the yellow and white taxis, you pay at the booth inside the terminal.

Always agree on the fare with the driver before you get in a taxi. Taking a taxi is very cheap, they don’t use meters but have set fare within zones.

From Mismaloya to down-town is 180 pesos.
To Lays, the nearest large grocery store, the cost is 200 pesos.
The bus stops outside the Mismaloya condos every 15 minutes, the cost is 8 pesos per person.
There are some small tiendas in Mismaloya that have some basic groceries, Farmacia Guadalajara in Puerto Vallarta has a few items as does the Oxxo stores. There are many large grocery stores in Puerto Vallarta including Lays, Mega,
2 Walmarts, Costco, La Comer, Sam’s club and several Soriana.

You can pay with dollars in many places, but you will not get the best exchange rate. The best is to use your debit card and get pesos from an ATM, always use one that is connected to a bank.

Puerto Vallarta receives considerable rain from late June to early October, September is the wettest month. The day starts out sunny with blue skies, and in the afternoon the black clouds come rolling in bringing the rain; it can be quite impressive. Roads flood, (there is reason why the sidewalks are so high) visibility is poor and small hills becomes raging rivers.
